HYATT'S / A Brief History
After many years in the graphic art industry, Charles W. Hyatt founded our company in 1959. He started in a 200 square foot store at 499 Franklin Street in Buffalo's Allentown Arts District. In 1961, he moved two blocks to 914 Main Street and a 2500 square foot store. Surviving a devastating four-alarm fire in 1965, increased business encouraged him to stay, knock down walls and double our size. In 1981, we purchased the multi-story building and expanded our use to the entire 32,000 square feet. This location continued as our headquarters until 2019 when we moved to 1941 Elmwood Avenue near Hertel Avenue in North Buffalo. We now occupy a 42,000 square foot one-level facility custom designed for our business. Included is a 15,000 square foot retail area, 2-1/2 times larger than our previous location. Since 1988, Charles' sons, Peter and Gregory Hyatt, have owned the company where they have been active since the early 1970's. Circa 2010, they were joined by Greg's daughters, Sara and Beth, and his son-in-law, Seth Martin, who constitute the third generation of family leadership.

ART / Art Supplies and Picture Framing
Hyatt's was originally founded to serve the printing and graphic arts industry, hence our corporate name: Hyatt's Graphic Supply Co., Inc. Very quickly, our growth led us into art supplies for fine artists and designers in many fields. Ever since, this has remained a major focus of our company. In addition to the 6000 square foot store at 910 Main Street we operated from 1961 to 2019, a 4000 square foot store was opened in 1971 at 8565 Main Street in Clarence and continued to serve the Buffalo suburbs until 2019. That year we moved both locations into our current 15,000 square foot retail home within our 42,000 square foot headquarters in North Buffalo. Our custom picture framing department was greatly expanded at this time and remains an important part of our business. In 1984, we opened our third store, on East Avenue in Rochester. After 10 years, this store was moved to 937 Jefferson Road in Rochester. After substantial growth in our online sales served from our Buffalo headquarters, we decided to close our Rochester location in spring of 2014. Today, our retail, online and commercial customers make us one of the very largest art material retailers in the United States. We also serve customers internationally through our Amazon stores in Canada, United Kingdom, Germnay, France, Italy, Spain and Australia. In-store, phone and online customers all know they can rely on the advice of our representatives who have extensive backgrounds in the arts and art products.

One of our special interests is support of art education programs, especially activities that are directed towards youth and beginning artists. We conduct in-store art demos every Saturday throughout the year at our Elmwood headquarters. Local and national art contest information is often available in our stores. We are pleased to be able to provide gift certificate awards for a number of local schools and private organizations that sponsor art competitions. And we work closely with art educators to ensure students have needed supplies at affordable prices. Many educators look to our staff for up-to-date information on techniques and product usage as well as information about innovative new products.
